Glaucoma

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is more than high eye pressure

Traditionally, glaucoma has been thought of as high eye pressure that damages the optic nerve to cause vision loss. However, most people with glaucoma continue to lose vision due to progressive optic nerve damage even if the eye pressure is lowered and controlled.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

At the Vision Protection Institutes we specialize in Vision Protection Therapy. In glaucoma, Vision Protection Therapy is the only treatment that can reverse glaucoma damage to help prevent vision loss from glaucoma. This is not something your glaucoma doctor does. However, the Vision Protection Institutes is not here to replace your glaucoma doctor. Instead, we work with your glaucoma doctor whose job it is to help you control your eye pressure, the other important part of glaucoma management, to minimize your risk of vision loss. Glaucoma management is a team effort: you, your glaucoma doctor, and the Vision Protection Institutes.

Glaucoma is also an optic nerve disease

Our research has shown that glaucoma patients are missing chemicals made by the retina that are necessary to keep the optic nerve healthy. Vision Protection Therapy restores them. How do we know? Because Vision Protection Therapy reverses glaucoma to improve vision, visual fields, optic nerve function, and restore the optic nerve in glaucoma.

“Neuroprotection.” The Holy Grail of glaucoma treatment. Only with Vision Protection Therapy.

Optic nerve damage is the cause of vision loss in glaucoma. Like the retina, the optic nerve is part of the brain, the “central nervous system.” Progressive damage to nervous tissue is called “neurodegeneration”. By improving the health and function of the optic nerve in glaucoma, Vision Protection Therapy is neuroprotective, neuroenhancing, and, according to recent studies, may be neuroregenerative as well, reversing optic nerve damage.

“I have optic nerve damage that isn’t from glaucoma. Can Vision Protection Therapy help?”

Recent studies show that in eyes with optic atrophy due to other diseases, Vision Protection Therapy can improve visual acuity and visual fields.
